Safari Camp is a great option for campers who love the outdoors, thrive in a small group setting, and are looking for extra adventure. Safari campers stay a 10 minute hike away from base camp at the Safari Outpost. As a primitive camp, there is no running water or electricity at Safari Camp, instead campers will stay in elevated huts, spend late nights around the campfire, and even prepare some of their own meals. Safari campers will have the opportunity to do our challenge course activities (zipline, giant swing, climbing tower, etc.) and swim like all other campers who stay on BSCC property.
At Safari Extreme, campers will travel off-campus one night to Appalachian Christian Camp to go white water rafting.
Camp Specific Info:
At Safari Extreme, we desire campers, as well as the leaders, to encounter God. Summer camp has some of the most fun experiences, and Safari Extreme adds a few to it, but the most incredible experience any of us could have at camp is to experience God. We pray that God would use BSCC, our leaders and the other campers as His instruments to encountering Him however He wants to reveal Himself.
Safari Extreme campers will be traveling to Alpine Ministries in West Virginia for a couple of days this year (drive down on Tuesday and return to BSCC on Wednesday) in order to hike, swim, and white water raft. For white water rafting here are the clothing recommendations from Alpine Ministries:
Male – modest trunk style swimsuit or board shorts.
Female – modest swimsuit and shorts. The midriff should be covered and no low cut tops please.
Water sandals or shoes for water recreation.
T-shirts and Sunscreen are highly recommended.
Inexpensive sunglasses with a strap. Safety strap for eye- glasses.
Flip-flops/shoes without backs are not acceptable as well as long pants, skirts, or culottes as they may be a safety hazard.
From the dean:
My name is Kyrsten Alvey and I have the privilege of being one of your child's leaders during Safari Extreme this summer. I am 30 years old, currently work as a full-time nanny and nurse on the side, grew up going to BSCC, spent a couple of summers on staff, have been leading a week of Safari camp for the past 6 summers, and love Jesus more than anything else in this world. I have the honor of leading your camper in Safari Extreme this year with brothers and sisters in Christ who also love the Lord with their whole heart and are passionate about camp ministry.
I am so incredibly honored to have the privilege of being with your kids for even just a week this summer! Your kids are being prayed over in preparation for camp and will continue to be prayed over as our week together draws nearer. Each of us leaders absolutely loves the Lord and cannot wait for the opportunity to share that love with your kids. Please feel free to contact me with any specific or clarifying questions! I am looking forward to meeting your camper and all God has in-store for camp this summer!
